Educational Educators

Yikes. Zounds. Another disappointing teachers website. This one is called Educational Educators, and is sponsored by About.com. It purports to be Your guide to hundreds of educational web sites. And it is, if you define ‘Your guide’ as ‘A series of hyperlinks to hundreds of sites with little input as to the purpose or usefulness of those sites’.

Worse still, all of the input that Educational Educators provides about a site is positive. They’ve never seen a website that they don’t like, which serves as an indictment of their objectivity, and suggests that the site is merely a set of advertisements for those web sites that have curried favor with Educational Educators, in the form of advertising dollars or complementary hyperlink exchanges.

There are no actual reviews of educational sites here, only a set of categories and a number of sites under each topic with glowing words about how students love them, or how incredibly useful they are.

The online forums and chats are poorly attended with little insight into the fundamentals of good educational web site content development, and it is generally believed that our online hostess, Beth Lewis, exists only within the confines of the Educational Educators web server.
